Who is Christy Henderson?
Emmy Awards have been won by journalist and chief meteorologist Christy Henderson. She is a part of the WSPA meteorological team. Christy came on board with us in 2003. 4:5, 6:, 7:, 10:, and 11: o’clock on Monday through Friday. She started her career at a business in Waco, Texas. She worked at this station as the weekend meteorologist for eight months.
Then, Christy moved to New Orleans and started working for the Fox affiliate WVUE. She spent more than three years there as the weekend meteorologist before being promoted to forecast the weather for the following day at five o’clock in the evening. Christy was live-streaming when Hurricane Danny passed across Southeast Louisiana’s Plaquemines Parish in 1997.
Before Hurricane Georges made landfall close to Biloxi, she also covered the threat it posed to New Orleans’ coastal communities. That happened in 1998. She also holds a meteorology degree and belongs to the American Meteorological Society.

Christy Henderson WSPA
Henderson, the chief meteorologist, joined WSPA in 2003 and is in charge of all weather forecasts and broadcasts. She is available to view every weeknight at 4, 5, 6, 7, and 11 o’clock.
Along with her responsibilities for the television, Christy also forecasts the weather for two local radio stations and works with Spartanburg District 5 Schools to keep scheduled events safe from inclement weather.
Christy, a Texas native originally from Fort Worth, graduated with a B.S. in meteorology from Texas A&M University in 1995. Soon after finishing, she started a job in television.
Waco, Texas was the location of Christy’s first job. After working weekends there for eight months, she relocated to New Orleans where she spent more than three years as the weekend meteorologist at the Fox station WVUE before being upgraded to handle the 5 pm weekday forecast.
She developed an interest in learning about tropical weather there, and she broadcast during hurricanes Danny (1997) and George (1998), which threatened New Orleans and the coastal regions before making landfall close to Biloxi, Mississippi.
Christy continued her journey from New Orleans to Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked for three and a half years as the morning meteorologist on “Good Day Atlanta” and also provided weather updates during the daily noon show.
The Rock, Kevin Bacon, and Ed McMahon were among the famous people who stopped by the station for interviews, and Christy did the weather with several of them!
Before working as the Chief Meteorologist at WSPA-TV, Christy freelanced in Washington, D.C., and Texas at WJLA-TV and KTVT, the CBS affiliate in Fort Worth. Christy is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and a member of the American Meteorological Society.
