Who is James Spann?
James Spann is an American meteorologist and podcast host with the full name James Max Spann Jr. He is currently employed at Birmingham, Alabama-based WBMA-LD (ABC 33/40) as a weather forecaster.
Since 1978, James has worked in the journalism industry. He started broadcasting the WeatherBrains podcast in 2006, which he presents once a week. James was called to Birmingham to serve as WAPI’s (NBC 13) primary weather anchor.
At age 23, he started his new work the same week that Hurricane Frederic made landfall in Mobile Bay. James left Channel 13 after working there for five years to work for Dallas, Texas-based KDFW-4. He received the 1985 Katy Award from the Dallas Press Club for Best Weathercaster there.

His parents, Carolyn Adkins, a former Greenville High School secretary, and his father, Max Spann, a lumber salesman, welcomed him into the world in Huntsville, Alabama. He and his family moved to Greenville in Butler County while he was still a little child.
James’ father, Max, left the family when he was seven years old after divorcing his mother, leaving Carolyn to raise James by herself.
He and his mother moved to Tuscaloosa after he finished fourth grade so that Carolyn could complete her degree at the University of Alabama and begin working as a teacher. James hasn’t said anything about his siblings, though.
