After graduating from Santa Clara University in Northern California, she joined the Peace Corps.  during her two-year service in Botswana, teaching children in a rural village who were suffering from extreme poverty and malnutrition. She knew her rage for sharing stories and lifting the voices of those who often go unheard.

After the Peace Corps, she was at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. Out of school, she was employed as a News Desk Producer for CNN International in Atlanta. She mainly traveled to Havana, Cuba to conceal Fidel Castro and Cuba’s relationship with the United States for CNN
