Johnnie Lee Cochran Jr. was born on October 2, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana, in the United States. Cochran was 67 years old at the time. O.J. Simpson has been acquitted of all charges in the killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and her companion Ron Goldman thanks in large part to the efforts of American lawyer and civil rights activist Cochran.
After learning that he had a brain tumor in December 2003, Johnnie Cochran made the decision to have the tumor surgically removed, which he did in April 2004. He avoided the media for a while while he was getting better. Tragically, Johnnie Cochran passed away on March 29, 2005, at his Los Angeles residence.
On April 4 at the Angelus Funeral Home and on April 5 at the Second Baptist Church in Los Angeles, there was a public viewing of his coffin. On April 6, 2005, a memorial service was held at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles.
Cochran’s bones were buried in Inglewood, California’s, Inglewood Park Cemetery. His father Johnnie Sr., as well as many old friends and clients, including O.J. Simpson and Michael Jackson, attended the funeral.
