Tim first joined Saltillo High School in Saltillo Mississippi. apart from studying there, he also was a catcher and later became the pitcher of the school. On reaching his senior year, he got selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 15th round which was the 448th overall of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft.

Unfortunately, his hitting was not as proficient as expected by the Brewers since he had undergone left shoulder surgery. Instead, he was joined to Itawamba Community College which was in Fulton, Mississippi.

Coming the year 2003 in his sophomore season, he pitched and won for the Itawamba Indians, a school record of 11 games. also still won in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II College World Series.

This made him chosen as the NJCAA Player of the Year, hence being honored with induction into the college’s Athletic Hall Of Fame in 2015. Later, he was selected by the Brewers as the 1009th overall pick in the 34th round at the 2002 draft.

Starting from 2003, when Tim started his baseball career professionally. He first became the pitcher of the Rookie Arizona and the Helena Brewers. He made 4 starts and went 1-2 with a 3.29 ERA in the 14 games he played.

In 2005, he played for the Class A-Advanced Brevard County Manatees where he made 28 starts accumulating a 12-10 record with a 2.48 ERA. Coming 2006, he joined the Double-A Huntsville Stars, where he made 25 starts and 4 relief appearances. In 29 games he managed 10-7 with a 3.26 ERA. Also came to be selected to participate in the midseason Southern League All-Star Game.
